IS THE
TRINITY A SCRIPTURAL FACT?
Is the Trinity a Scriptural fact? Is the Lord Jesus
Christ God? Is the Holy Spirit (Ghost) God? While
the word “Trinity” is not found in the Scriptures it
is a Bible doctrine that can be proven from the
Scriptures. The strongest and clearest statement in
scripture concerning the Trinity is 1 John 5:7. This
is one of the most maligned and the most attacked
passages in our Bibles. It is one of the favorite
whipping posts for those apostate Christ rejecting
Unitarians, Arians, Jehovah Witnesses, and such
like. First John 5:7 has come under the vilest
attacks because it is the strongest text in the New
Testament that supports the doctrine of the
Trinity. This verse is entirely left out of most
modern English translations and then verses 6 and 7
are deceptively split to form a new verse 7 so that
you will not notice that it has been removed from
your Bibles. The International Standard Version,
New American Standard Bible, New Living Translation,
and New Revised Standard Version place an
unbelieving note in the margin also. So that you
can see the duplicity for yourselves I here quote 1
John 5:6-8 in every version I have available to me:
1 John 5:6-8 (King James Bible)
6 This is he that came by water and blood,
even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by
water and blood. And it is the Spirit that
beareth witness, because the Spirit is
truth. 7 For there are three that bear
record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and
the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8
And there are three that bear witness in
earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the
blood: and these three agree in one.
1 John 5:6-8 (American Standard Version)
6 This is he that came by water and blood,
even Jesus Christ; not with the water only,
but with the water and with the blood. 7 And
it is the Spirit that beareth witness,
because the Spirit is the truth. 8 For there
are three who bear witness, the Spirit, and
the water, and the blood: and the three
agree in one.
1 John 5:6-8 (Contemporary English Version)
6 Water and blood came out from the side of
Jesus Christ. It wasn’t just water, but
water and blood. The Spirit tells about
this, because the Spirit is truthful. 7 In
fact, there are three who tell about it. 8
They are the Spirit, the water, and the
blood, and they all agree.
1 John 5:6-8 (English Standard Version)
6 This is he who came by water and
blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only
but by the water and the blood. And the
Spirit is the one who testifies, because the
Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three
that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and
the blood; and these three agree.
1 John 5:6-8 (International Standard
Version)
6 This man, Jesus Christ, is the one who
came by water and blood—not with water only,
but with water and with blood. The Spirit is
the one who verifies this, because the
Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three
witnesses— 8 the Spirit, the water, and the
blood—and these three are one.
1 John 5:6-8 (The Living Bible)
6 And we know he is, because God said so
with a voice from heaven when Jesus was
baptized, and again as he was facing
death—yes, not only at his baptism but also
as he faced death. And the Holy Spirit,
forever truthful, says it too. So we have
these three witnesses: the voice of the Holy
Spirit in our hearts, the voice from heaven
at Christ’s baptism, and the voice before he
died. And they all say the same thing: that
Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
1 John 5:6-8 (New American Bible)
6 This is the one who came through water and
blood, Jesus Christ, not by water alone, but
by water and blood. The Spirit is the one
that testifies, and the Spirit is truth. 7
So there are three that testify, 8 the
Spirit, the water, and the blood, and the
three are of one accord.
1 John 5:6-8 (New American Standard Bible
95)
6 This is the One who came by water and
blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water
only, but with the water and with the blood.
It is the Spirit who testifies, because the
Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three
that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and
the blood; and the three are in agreement.
1 John 5:6-8 (New Century Version)
6 Jesus Christ is the One who came by water
and blood. He did not come by water only,
but by water and blood. And the Spirit says
that this is true, because the Spirit is the
truth. 7 So there are three witnesses that
tell us about Jesus: 8 the Spirit, the
water, and the blood; and these three
witnesses agree.
1 John 5:6-8 (New International Version)
6 This is the one who came by water and
blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water
only, but by water and blood. And it is the
Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is
the truth. 7 For there are three that
testify: 8 the Spirit, the water and the
blood; and the three are in agreement.
1 John 5:6-8 (New King James Version)
6 This is He who came by water and
blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but
by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who
bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7 For there are three that bear witness in
heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy
Spirit; and these three are one. 8 And there
are three that bear witness on earth: the
Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these
three agree as one.
1 John 5:6-8 (New Living Translation)
6 And Jesus Christ was revealed as God’s Son
by his baptism in water and by shedding his
blood on the cross—not by water only, but by
water and blood. And the Spirit also gives
us the testimony that this is true. 7 So we
have these three witnesses— 8 the Spirit,
the water, and the blood—and all three
agree.
1 John 5:6-8 (New Revised Standard Version)
6 This is the one who came by water and
blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only
but with the water and the blood. And the
Spirit is the one that testifies, for the
Spirit is the truth. 7 There are three that
testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the
blood, and these three agree.
1 John 5:6-8 (GNB)
6 Jesus Christ is the one who came with the
water of his baptism and the blood of his
death. He came not only with the water, but
with both the water and the blood. And the
Spirit himself testifies that this is true,
because the Spirit is truth. 7 There are
three witnesses: 8 the Spirit, the water,
and the blood; and all three give the same
testimony.
1 John 5:6-8 (Young's Literal Translation)
6 This one is he who did come through water
and blood—Jesus the Christ, not in the water
only, but in the water and the blood; and
the Spirit it is that is testifying, because
the Spirit is the truth, 7 because three are
who are testifying (in the heaven, the
Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and
these—the three—are one; 8 and three are who
are testifying in the earth), the Spirit,
and the water, and the blood, and the three
are into the one. |
Pay particular attention to verse 7 and compare
it to the King James Bible reading. The problem
starts with tampering with verse 7 in the text.
Please note that much of the time the new version
problem with verse 7 is compounded with the footnote
that is placed at the bottom of the page or in the
margin of the new versions. Again we would ask that
you check the marginal notes for the New King James
Version (NKJV), the International Standard Version
(ISV), the New American Standard Bible 95 (NASB95),
the New American Standard Bible (NASB), the New
Revised Standard Version (NRSV), the New American
Standard Version (NASV), the New Living Translation
(NLT), and the New International Version (NIV).
Again, many of the new versions will just eliminate
verse 7 and split verse 6 to make it look like they
did not eliminate verse 7. That is deception by
Satan's scribes, apostates, and heretics. They have
handled the word of God deceitfully.
There is overwhelming evidence to support the
inclusion of this text in our Bibles. Michael
Maynard in his book “A
History Of The Debate Over 1 John 5:7-8"
documents a trail of manuscript evidence that goes
all the way back to A.D. 168 for the support of this
passage. Maynard then proceeds to present over 300
pages of evidence supporting these verses. Let's
develop the Scriptural presentation of the Trinity
further.
In one of the most amazing statements in
Scripture, the unity of God in three persons is
first attested to in Genesis 1:26-27 where we see:
Genesis 1:26-27 (King James Bible)
26 And God said, Let us make man in our
image, after our likeness: and let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea, and over
the fowl of the air, and over the cattle,
and over all the earth, and over every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in
the image of God created he him; male and
female created he them. |
Notice the three amazing phrases: “let us”; “our
image”; and “our likeness”. Notice also in Genesis
1:1-2:
Genesis 1:1-2 (King James Bible)
1 In the beginning God created the heaven
and the earth. 2 And the earth was without
form, and void; and darkness was upon the
face of the deep. And the Spirit of God
moved upon the face of the waters. |
So, at the very least we see God and the Spirit
of God in Genesis 1. The Godhead (Trinity) is
present at the creation. From the use of the plural
pronouns us (still amazing to me!) and ours followed
by the singular noun phrase God created we see both
God the Holy Spirit and God the Father united in the
singular noun phrase God created. Genesis chapter 1
shows the unity of the Godhead in three persons in
one. Add to these the Scriptures in Ephesians 3:9
which reads:
Ephesians 3:9 (King James Bible)
9 And to make all men see what is the
fellowship of the mystery, which from the
beginning of the world hath been hid in God,
who created all things by Jesus Christ: |
and in Colossians 1:13-17 which reads:
Colossians 1:13-17 (King James Bible)
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of
darkness, and hath translated us into the
kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have
redemption through his blood, even the
forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of
the invisible God, the firstborn of every
creature: 16 For by him were all things
created, that are in heaven, and that are in
earth, visible and invisible, whether they
be thrones, or dominions, or principalities,
or powers: all things were created by him,
and for him: 17 And he is before all things,
and by him all things consist. |
Thus we see the Trinity present at the creation of
the earth and all that is in it and on it. We also
see the Trinity at the baptism of the Lord Jesus
Christ in Matthew 3:16-17, Mark 1:10-12, and Luke
3:21-22 where we have:
Matthew 3:16-17 (King James Bible)
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up
straightway out of the water: and, lo, the
heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove, and
lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from
heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in
whom I am well pleased.
Mark 1:10-12 (King James Bible)
10 And straightway coming up out of the
water, he saw the heavens opened, and the
Spirit like a dove descending upon him: 11
And there came a voice from heaven, saying,
Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well
pleased. 12 And immediately the Spirit
driveth him into the wilderness.
Luke 3:21-23 (King James Bible)
21 Now when all the people were baptized, it
came to pass, that Jesus also being
baptized, and praying, the heaven was
opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a
bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a
voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art
my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. |
There! We have the Godhead in three persons! The
Trinity!
The attacks upon God the Father and God the Son have
also been extended to the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit in
four instances in the New Testament) But, you say
that the Holy Ghost (Spirit) is not God. One of the
strongest statements in Scripture concerning the
deity of the Holy Ghost is Acts 5:1-4:
Acts 5:1-4 (King James Bible)
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with
Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And
kept back part of the price, his wife also
being privy to it, and brought a certain
part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3
But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan
filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost,
and to keep back part of the price of the
land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine
own? and after it was sold, was it not in
thine own power? why hast thou conceived
this thing in thine heart? thou hast not
lied unto men, but unto God. |
Notice that Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy
Ghost (v3). Then, note the statement in verse 5:
“thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God”. The
Holy Ghost is God. I rest my case.
The term “Holy Ghost” occurs ninety different
times in the New Testament. The term Holy Spirit
occurs four different times in the New Testament.
The new versions avoid the term “Holy Ghost”
altogether.
The term preferred by the new versions is “Holy
Spirit”. The King James Version is much criticized
for using the term “Holy Ghost”. So, why does the
King James Bible used the term “ Holy Ghost” rather
than the term “Holy Spirit”. Jack Moorman in his
booklet “Connies, Brass, and Easter” explains the
reasoning as follows:
When prefixed with "Holy" and presented
in a singular sense – generally apart from
the Father and Son – the August title of
the Third Person is "The Holy Ghost."
When presented in His relationships with
Father and Son, the title "Spirit" is used.
A survey of all the passages (see for
example, The Englishman's Greek Concordance)
shows this distinction to be maintained
consistently in the Authorized Version. A
possible exception is His baptizing work
(Matt. 3:11; Mark 1:8) where "Holy Ghost" is
used in connection with the Son. But as this
is His primary and initial work on behalf of
believers, we find the title used.
From this it seems apparent that
throughout much of English church history,
"Holy Ghost" was considered a more elevated
and exalted title than "Holy Spirit." It is
certainly the more ancient of the two, as it
goes back to the very roots of the English
language, whereas "Holy Spirit" did not
begin to be used until the 13th century
(Oxford Dictionary of English Etymology).
But could there not be a deeper and
providential reason for the rendering "Holy
Ghost"? With the word "ghost" death and its
aftermath comes immediately to mind --
albeit often in a superstitious sense. Yet
death does mark the word! He is the Holy
Ghost and could only come after a certain
death had been accomplished (John 7:39;
14:26; 16:7); and bears witness to Him "that
liveth, and was dead" (Rev. 1:18; Acts 4:8,
10).
|
The word “Spirit” is used in our King James
Bibles 138 times in the New Testament. We would not
be able to come to salvation, nor accomplish what we
do for Christ without the ministry of the Spirit of
God in our lives. The ministry of the Spirit of God
is most strongly presented in the New Testament in
Romans chapter 8, First Corinthians chapter 12, and
Galatians chapter 5. The word “Spirit” occurs
nineteen times in Romans chapter 8, ten times in
First Corinthians chapter 12,and eight times in
Galatians chapter 5. The ministry of the Holy
Spirit in Romans chapter 8 is to empower
individuals, to guarantee them victory in the
Spirit, and to assure them of salvation. The
ministry of the Holy Spirit in First Corinthians
chapter 12 is to empower the church with the gifts
that are necessary to carry out the great commission
and to worship, honor, and glorify God. Galatians
chapter 5 focuses upon the ministry of the Holy
Spirit in bringing forth fruits of the Spirit in the
lives of believers.
IS THE LORD JESUS
CHRIST GOD?
One of the most wicked attacks on the deity of the
Lord Jesus Christ occurs with the removal of the
word “God in 1 Timothy 3:16 in every modern English
version. Our King James Bible says in 1 Timothy
3:16: “And without controversy great is the mystery
of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh,
justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached
unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world,
received up into glory. The denial of the deity of
the Lord Jesus Christ is the mark of the antichrist
(1 John 2:22, 4:3)
1 John 2:22 (King James Bible)
22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that
Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that
denieth the Father and the Son.
1 John 4:3 (King James Bible)
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that
Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of
God: and this is that spirit of antichrist,
whereof ye have heard that it should come;
and even now already is it in the world. |
Our Bible’s say in 2 John 7 (King James Bible):
“7For many deceivers are entered into the world, who
confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh.
This is a deceiver and an antichrist”. There is a
conspiracy against the deity of the Lord Jesus
Christ in all modern English translations after the
1611 Authorized King James Version. On the
authority of the word of God, I tell you that the
spirit of antichrist has overtaken the modern
English perversions and many of their translators.
There are three different tests given for the
Antichrist in our Bibles. These tests can be phrased
as three different questions: (1) Is Jesus the
Christ? (2)Is Jesus the son of God? (3)Has Jesus
Christ come in the flesh? The answer to question
number one rests on two factors: is Jesus God and is
Jesus the Christ? These two terms both deal with his
deity. The clear testimony of the Scriptures is that
Jesus is both God (deity) and Christ (the promised
Messiah; the anointed one). God himself clearly
reveals in Matthew 4:10 and Hebrews 1:6 that Jesus
is God:
Matthew 4:10 (King James Bible)
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee
hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt
worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt
thou serve.
Hebrews 1:6 (King James Bible)
6 And again, when he bringeth in the
firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And
let all the angels of God worship him. |
The God of the Bible is an all exclusive God.
He says in Exodus 20:3: “Thou shalt have no other
gods before me”. God demands preeminence. He says
in Exodus 34:14 (King James Bible): “14For thou
shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name
is Jealous, is a jealous God:”. By scriptural
commandment, worship is only given to God. We see at
least twelve instances in the New Testament where
Jesus is worshiped. Jesus is referred to as “the
Christ” on nineteen different occasions in the King
James Version New Testament. The Lord Jesus Christ
himself said that there will be many “false
Christs”.The false christs are being plugged into
the new English Bibles at an alarming rate as the
time of “the antichrist” nears. This increased use
of the phrase “the Christ” in the new English
versions is preparing apostate professing
Christianity to get into bed with “THE FALSE CHRIST”
in the bedroom of the harlot church in Revelation
17. The phrase “the Christ” occurs fifty-seven
times in the New King James Version (NKJV), fifty
times in the New International Version (NIV),
fifty-two times in the Revised Standard Version
(RSV), fifty-one times in the New Jerusalem Bible
(NJB), forty-eight times in the New American
Standard Bible (NASB), fifty-four times in the
International Standard Version (ISV), fifty-one
times in the English Standard Version (ESV), and
fifty times in the American Standard Version (ASV).
There is an all out effort by heretics,
apostates, and unbelievers to deny or diminish the
deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. Most of the time it
is not an all-out frontal attack. The effort is a
sneak attack that is accomplished by Satan through
stocking “Bible” translation committees with those
who deny that Jesus is God, who deny that Jesus is
the Son of God, who deny that God (Jesus) has come
in the flesh. Our Bibles say in 1 John 2:22-23:
1 John 2:22-23 (King James Bible)
22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that
Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that
denieth the Father and the Son. 23 Whosoever
denieth the Son, the same hath not the
Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son
hath the Father also. |
There are at least 53 references to the son of
God in the New Testament. First John Chapter 5 is
“the son of God” chapter in our Bibles. There are
six references to the son of God in this chapter.
Mark 1:1 and John 20:31 are direct statements that
Jesus is the son of God. Our Bible say:
Mark 1:1 (King James Bible)
1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus
Christ, the Son of God;
John 20:31 (King James Bible)
31 But these are written, that ye might
believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of
God; and that believing ye might have life
through his name. |
A condition of salvation is believing that Jesus
Christ is the Son of God. Acts 8:37 says: “And
Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart,
thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe
that Jesus Christ is the Son of God”. [Oh that’s
right. They threw that verse out of their perverted
Bibles.] If the Lord Jesus Christ is not the Son of
God, then we cannot be saved. God does not dwell in
any one that does not confess that Jesus is the Son
of God. First John 4:15 (King James Bible) says: 15
Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of
God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God”. Only
losers, or the lost, do not believe that Jesus is
the Son of God. First John 5:5 (King James
Bible) says: 5 Who is he that overcometh the world,
but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of
God?
Again, our Bible’s say in 2 John 7 (King James
Bible): “7For many deceivers are entered into the
world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in
the flesh.
There are other attempts in the new English
versions to demean the deity of the Lord Jesus
Christ or to demote the Lord Jesus Christ. If we
look at the King James Bible, the Lord Jesus Christ
is referred to as Master twenty-seven different
times in the New Testament. The NASB, the NIV, and
others change this reading to Teacher twenty-three
different times and to Rabbi four different times.
This is not surprising in an age when churches have
heaped to themselves teachers having itching ears
rather than a Master who is Lord of their salvation,
Lord of their lives, and Lord of their doctrine.
There are seven “I Ams” in the book of John.
These I Ams are John 8:24, John 8:28, John 8:58,
John 13:19, John 18:5, John 18:6, and John 18:8. In
each an every one of these Scriptures, the Lord
Jesus Christ is saying that he is God; more
specifically that he is the God of the Old
Testament, that great I AM!
John 8:24 (King James Bible)
24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall
die in your sins: for if ye believe not that
I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
John 8:28 (King James Bible)
28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have
lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know
that I am he, and that I do nothing of
myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I
speak these things.
John 8:58-59 (King James Bible)
58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I
say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. 59
Then took they up stones to cast at him: but
Jesus hid himself, and went out of the
temple, going through the midst of them, and
so passed by.
John 13:19 (King James Bible)
19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when
it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am
he.
John 18:5-6 (King James Bible)
5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth.
Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas
also, which betrayed him, stood with them. 6
As soon then as he had said unto them, I am
he, they went backward, and fell to the
ground.
John 18:8 (King James Bible)
8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am
he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go
their way: |
The Jews knew exactly what the Lord Jesus Christ was
saying in John 8:58-59. Once again, they knew that
he was calling himself the God of the Old Testament:
the great I AM. For this reason, the Jews sought to
kill him. We notice in Exodus 3:13-14 that God
declares that he is “I AM”:
Exodus 3:13-14 (King James Bible)
13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I
come unto the children of Israel, and shall
say unto them, The God of your fathers hath
sent me unto you; and they shall say to me,
What is his name? what shall I say unto
them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT
I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto
the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me
unto you. |
Hence, we see that the “I AM”of the Old
Testament is the “I AM”of the New Testament. We see
that the “I AM”of the Old Testament is IN the “I
AM”of the New Testament. Jesus said in John
10:36-38:
John 10:36-38 (King James Bible)
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath
sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou
blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of
God? 37 If I do not the works of my Father,
believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye
believe not me, believe the works: that ye
may know, and believe, that the Father is in
me, and I in him. |
In this passage of Scripture Lord Jesus Christ
is saying that he is God. At least ten different
times in the New Testament the Lord Jesus Christ
used the phrase “ I am” in relation to himself. In
John 6:30 5, 41, 48, and 51, he said “I AM”the bread
of life. In John 8:12, 9:5, he said “I AM”the light
of the world. In John 10:7, 9, he said “I AM” the
door. In John 10:11, 14, he said “I AM” the good
Shepherd. In John 11:25, he said “I AM” the
resurrection and the life. In John 14:6, he said “I
AM” the way the truth in the life. In John 15:1, 5,
he said “I AM” the true vine. In Revelation 1:8,
11, he said “I AM” the Alpha and Omega. Duh! It
is obvious to me that he is the God of the Old
Testament. Read the Scripture in Revelation 1:8,11
to any rabbinical Jew today and he will know that
you’re talking about the God of the Old Testament.
He will bring to mind Isaiah 44:6 where we see:
“Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his
redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am
the last; and beside me there is no God”. I
praise the LORD God of the Old Testament that he
came in the flesh and saved my never dying soul.
The Psalmist David said in Psalm 18:1-3:
Psalm 18:1-3 (King James Bible)
1 I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. 2
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my
deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I
will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my
salvation, and my high tower. 3 I will call
upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised:
so shall I be saved from mine enemies. |
I thank and praise Jehovah that he has delivered
me. Isaiah the prophet said in Isaiah 12:2 and in
Isaiah 26:4:
Isaiah 12:2 (King James Bible)
2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust,
and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is
my strength and my song; he also is become
my salvation.
Isaiah 26:4 (King James Bible)
4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the
LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength: |
The Lord Jesus Christ is the Jehovah of the Old
Testament and he has become my salvation and the
salvation of all who will call upon him. The attacks
upon the God of the New Testament, our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ, are the same as the attacks
upon the God of the Old Testament, who is Jehovah.
Just as the Unitarians on many Bible translation
committees attack the deity of the Lord Jesus
Christ, so do the Hebrew “scholars” try to attack
the deity of the God of the Old Testament. Their
attack is focused upon the name of Jehovah. They
change the name Jehovah to Yahweh and then try to
equate this Yahweh with a Canaanite tribal God.
That is blasphemy folks. This change results in the
equating of the God of the Bible with the pagan gods
of the Old Testament. That makes the God of the
Bible an equal among equal gods. Nebuchadnezzar,
the King of the Babylonians, knew that the God of
the Bible had no equals for he referred to him as
“the most high God” in Daniel 3:26. God said to
Moses in Exodus 6:2-3:
Exodus 6:2-3 (King James Bible)
2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto
him, I am the LORD: 3 And I appeared unto
Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the
name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH
was I not known to them. |
God has claimed the name of Jehovah exclusively for
himself. He says in Psalm 83:18 (King James Bible):
“18That men may know that thou, whose name alone is
JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth”.
Jehovah, and not Yahweh, is the God of the Old
Testament.
The attacks on the deity of the Godhead
continues at an unabated pace. That is why the name
Jehovah either has been, or is being, removed from
the modern English bibles. God does not like people
who tamper with his name. The prophet Jeremiah
said:
Jeremiah 23:20-27 (King James Bible)
20 The anger of the LORD shall not return,
until he have executed, and till he have
performed the thoughts of his heart: in the
latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.
21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they
ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they
prophesied. 22 But if they had stood in my
counsel, and had caused my people to hear my
words, then they should have turned them
from their evil way, and from the evil of
their doings. 23 Am I a God at hand, saith
the LORD, and not a God afar off? 24 Can any
hide himself in secret places that I shall
not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill
heaven and earth? saith the LORD. 25 I have
heard what the prophets said, that prophesy
lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I
have dreamed. 26 How long shall this be in
the heart of the prophets that prophesy
lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit
of their own heart; 27 Which think to cause
my people to forget my name by their dreams
which they tell every man to his neighbour,
as their fathers have forgotten my name for
Baal. |
All the new versions have removed the wonderful
phrase “ I AM THAT I AM” from Exodus 3:14. Moses
said in:
Exodus 3:13-14 (King James Bible)
13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I
come unto the children of Israel, and shall
say unto them, The God of your fathers hath
sent me unto you; and they shall say to me,
What is his name? what shall I say unto
them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT
I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto
the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me
unto you. |
Most of the new versions including the English
Standard Version, New American Bible, New American
Standard Bible, New Century Version, New
International Version, New King James Version, New
Revised Standard Version, and Today’s English
Version (Good News Bible) all like the phrase “I am
who I am”. Well, so am I who I am, but that does
not make me God.
We have already proven that the Father, the Son, and
the Holy Ghost were present at the baptism of the
Lord Jesus Christ by John the Baptist. God the
Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost are also
equal partners in the great command to the Church to
evangelize the world in Matthew 28:19-20 which
reads:
Matthew 28:19-20 (King James Bible)
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20
Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I
am with you alway, even unto the end of the
world. Amen. |
For most heretics, the greater part of their
argument against the Trinity is based on the denial
of the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. Most of
those same heretics will also argue that the Holy
Ghost is not God. We have proved from the
Scriptures that both the Lord Jesus Christ and the
Holy Ghost are God and that the Godhead is composed
of a Trinity made up of God the Father, God the Son,
and God the Holy Ghost. They are equally three in
one in perfect unity.
If you deny that the Lord Jesus Christ is God,
the Bible says that you are a liar, you are an
antichrist, you have the spirit of antichrist, you
do not have God in you (you are lost), you are
calling God a liar, and you are a deceiver. Once
again, here are the Scriptures to prove it and we
close with them:
1 John 2:22 (King James Bible)
22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that
Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that
denieth the Father and the Son.
1 John 4:2-3 (King James Bible)
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every
spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is
come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every
spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ
is come in the flesh is not of God: and this
is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye
have heard that it should come; and even now
already is it in the world.
1 John 4:15 (King James Bible)
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the
Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in
God.
1 John 5:5-13 (King James Bible)
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but
he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of
God? 6 This is he that came by water and
blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only,
but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit
that beareth witness, because the Spirit is
truth. 7 For there are three that bear
record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and
the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8
And there are three that bear witness in
earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the
blood: and these three agree in one. 9 If we
receive the witness of men, the witness of
God is greater: for this is the witness of
God which he hath testified of his Son. 10
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the
witness in himself: he that believeth not
God hath made him a liar; because he
believeth not the record that God gave of
his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God
hath given to us eternal life, and this life
is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath
life; and he that hath not the Son of God
hath not life. 13 These things have I
written unto you that believe on the name of
the Son of God; that ye may know that ye
have eternal life, and that ye may believe
on the name of the Son of God.
2 John 7 (King James Bible)
7 For many deceivers are entered into the
world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is
come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an
antichrist. |
